Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments are structured evaluations conducted by trained professionals to measure and understand an individual’s cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social functioning.

These assessments use standardized tools such as interviews, questionnaires, and performance-based tests to gather comprehensive information. The process typically begins with a referral or request, followed by an initial interview to clarify concerns and background information. The individual then completes a series of appropriate tests, after which the results are analyzed and interpreted in the context of the individual’s history and presenting issues.

A detailed report is provided, outlining findings, diagnoses if applicable, and recommendations for treatment, accommodations, or further evaluation.

Specialized Neurodivergence Focus

Our psychological evaluations are specifically designed to assess neurodivergence, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), language disorders, and related conditions. These evaluations use evidence-based, standardized instruments and clinical interviews to identify neurodevelopmental strengths and areas of support. The assessment process considers developmental history, social communication, sensory processing, executive functioning, and adaptive skills, as well as academic and behavioral profiles.

By focusing on neurodivergence, our evaluations aim to provide a nuanced understanding of each individual’s unique cognitive and behavioral patterns. This approach facilitates accurate diagnosis, informs appropriate interventions, and supports access to educational and therapeutic resources. Recommendations are individualized to promote self-advocacy, optimize learning environments, and enhance overall well-being.

Psychological Assessment Process

The psychological assessment process begins with an initial consultation, during which the psychologist conducts a brief intake interview to identify presenting concerns and determine if the evaluation is appropriate. This session also includes a discussion of the assessment goals and expectations, as well as a clear explanation of confidentiality, consent, and the procedures involved in the assessment.

Following the initial consultation, a comprehensive clinical interview is conducted, as well as a clear explanation of confidentiality, consent, and the procedures involved in the assessment. This interview explores the client’s psychosocial history, medical background, and current symptoms. The psychologist also reviews developmental, educational, occupational, and relational factors and identifies relevant risk and protective factors to gain a holistic understanding of the client’s needs.

Based on the information gathered, the psychologist selects appropriate standardized assessment tools, such as cognitive, personality, academic, or symptom inventories. The assessment battery is tailored to address the specific referral questions and the client’s individual needs.

The selected psychological tests are then administered, either in-person or remotely, following standardized protocols to ensure reliability and validity. During testing, the psychologist observes behavioral responses to provide further context to the results.

Collateral information is gathered as needed, with the client or caregiver’s consent, from relevant sources such as family members, educators, or medical records. This supplementary information helps to provide a comprehensive picture of the client’s functioning.

Once the assessment is complete, the psychologist objectively scores the test results and integrates both quantitative and qualitative findings. The results are interpreted within the context of the client’s history and presenting concerns to develop a thorough clinical understanding.

A feedback session is then held with the client (and/or caregivers, if applicable), during which the psychologist presents the assessment findings, discusses diagnostic impressions, highlights strengths and areas for growth, and provides recommendations for intervention, treatment, or further evaluation.

Finally, a comprehensive written report is prepared, summarizing the assessment procedures, findings, interpretations, and recommendations. This report is provided to the client and any referring parties, as authorized. This process ensures a thorough, ethical, and individualized approach to psychological assessment, supporting accurate diagnosis and effective intervention planning.
